Not required



Electrical Contracting Company licensure is not required on the State level in Maryland.

There is no state level license for electrical contractor firms in Maryland, however, individual and local licensing requirements may apply.

Maryland General Contractor License

Not required



General Contractor Company licensure is not required on the State level in Maryland.

The application will ask you to provide or respond to the following: 

  • Federal Tax ID or Social Security Number
  • Corporate ID number or Individual ID number from the State Department of Assessment and Taxation (SDAT)
  • Have you completed the combined registration form to establish tax accounts (sales tax, unemployment insurance) with the Comptroller of the Treasury?
  • If you have employees, you will need to provide your policy binder number or provide a copy of your certificate of compliance to the Clerk of the Circuit Court
  • Do you have Planning and Zoning approval? You must have planning and zoning approval to operate a business. This approval must be forwarded to the Clerk of the Circuit Court's Office prior to issuance. Certain incorporated towns require planning and zoning approval for license applications. For those incorporated towns, you can not apply for a business license online.

  • All applicants are required to submit proof of registration from the Office of Maryland Attorney General regarding the Maryland Home Builders Registration Act. Confirmation letter required (call 1– 877– 259 – 4525 for more information).
  • A résumé detailing experience (required for all applications).
