Wyoming Engineer Intern Certification

Licensed professionals may practice professional engineering or professional land surveying in Wyoming through a business entity provided the business entity has registered with the Board. Business entities requiring registration include: corporations, Limited Liability Company, partnership, limited partnership, limited liability partnership or any other form of business except a sole proprietorship. These instructions are provided to assist in completing and submitting Business Entity Registration.

Wyoming Firm Registration

Ownership Requirements:

Business Corporations:

  • Officers and directors need not be licensed, but the corporation must appoint a Wyoming licensed individual to be responsible for all professional activities undertaken by the firm in Wyoming.

Professional Corporations:

  • All shareholders must be licensed in a professional service performed by the firm.

Limited Liability Companies:

  • Members and managers need not be licensed, but the LLC must appoint a Wyoming licensed individual to be responsible for all professional activities undertaken by the firm in Wyoming.

Partnerships:

  • Partners need not be licensed, but the partnership must appoint a Wyoming licensed individual to be responsible for all professional activities undertaken by the firm in Wyoming.

Notes:
  • Qualified Individual
    • The individual listed as the person in responsible charge must be licensed in Wyoming and have a valid seal on file. Additionally, the individuals in charge must complete the affidavit, sign, and affix their seal prior to submitting the application.
Before you Apply:

Domestic Applicants:

  • Identify a Wyoming licensed engineer to act as the individual in responsible charge of the firm's engineering activities in Wyoming.

Foreign Applicants:

  • Identify a Wyoming licensed engineer to act as the individual in responsible charge of the firm's engineering activities in Wyoming.
  • Obtain a certificate of good standing from your business entity's home state (to be filed during the foreign qualification process). The certificate cannot be more than 60 days old when filing foreign qualification documents.
How to Apply:

Domestic Applicants:

  1. File entity formation documents with the Wyoming Secretary of State - Business Division.
  2. Obtain a certificate of good standing (to file with the license application) for your entity from the Secretary of State. Use the entity search feature to look up your entity's filing ID, then generate a certificate on this page using the ID.
  3. File an Application for Business Entity Authorization with the Board of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.

Foreign Applicants:

  1. Determine whether or not your entity will need to foreign qualify in Wyoming. If the firm determines that they do not require foreign qualification, the Board of Engineers will require explicit approval from the Secretary of State before a firm license is granted.
  2. File foreign qualification documents with the Wyoming Secretary of State - Business Division.
  3. Obtain a certificate of good standing (to file with the license application) for your entity from the Secretary of State. Use the entity search feature to look up your entity's filing ID, then generate a certificate on this page using the ID.
  4. File an Application for Business Entity Authorization with the Board of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors.

  • A copy of the Wyoming Certificate of Authority or certified copy of the Articles of Incorporation 
    • If the firm is not required to register with the Wyoming Secretary of State’s Office, a copy of the firm’s Certificate of Authority from the Secretary of State of the jurisdiction in which the firm is located will be required

Notes:

Firms may reinstate up to 2 years of an expired license. Licenses that are expired for more than two years cannot be reinstated and license holders should apply for a new license.

Wyoming Professional Engineer License

Digital Signature Guidelines:

Drawings, reports, or documents that require a signature may be signed using a digital signature. The digital signature must be:

  1. Unique to the Licensee using it;
  2. Capable of verification; and
  3. Under the sole responsibility and control of the Licensee affixing it; and
  4. Linked to a document in such a manner that the digital signature is invalidated if any data in the document is changed. A digital signature that uses a process approved by the board will be presumed to meet the criteria set forth in subsections (c)(i) through (iii). Any hard copy printed from the transmitted electronic file shall bear the facsimile of the signature and seal and be a confirmation that the electronic file was not altered after the initial digital signing of the file. Any alterations to the file shall cause the facsimile of the signature to be voided.

(f) A scanned image or other reproduction of an original signature may be used in lieu of an original signature or digital signature if accompanied by the date of signature.

Digital Sealing Guidelines:

Seals generated electronically are acceptable if accompanied by a signature and date of the Licensee preparing the generated document and as long as the electronically generated seal complies with the requirements outlined in subsection (a) above.

In accordance with the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act, (W.S. 40-21-101 through 40-21-119), an electronic image of the Licensee’s seal, signature, and date is permitted to be used in lieu of an original seal, signature and date on electronic submittals made to agencies of local, state, and federal governments or between private entities if they so desire.
